Research Engineering Co-Op Position
Position Summary:
Research engineering co-op position responsibilities include daily sample preparation, testing of samples, recording and preliminary reporting on analytic results to senior research scientists and engineers. In addition, Co-Ops will support work on polymer film processing lines while assisting in developing, testing, and trouble-shooting film processing and polymer sample preparation techniques associated with scale-up challenges of customer products. This role requires a basic understanding of materials and analytic skills. Co-Op students will work with and report to engineers and senior scientists who will oversee day-to-day laboratory activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Conduct film extrusion or basic polymer materials fabrication trials
Set-up and tear down process experiments
Operate process or testing equipment for shaping and molding of polymer material
Conduct, record, and report on daily analytic testing of polymer films or products
Assist senior technical staff members in developing/modifying process or analytic equipment for the evaluation of new products and processes
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Ability to work independently or well in a team atmosphere
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated, work effectively with minimal direction or feedback
Demonstrated eagerness to learn new tasks, concepts and applications
Ability to handle up to fifty (50) pounds with physical dexterity to assemble and operate test equipment
Intermediate PC skills with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Project, etc.)
Education and Experience Requirements:
Basic knowledge or interest in polymeric materials
Enrollment in B.A. or B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Mechanical Engineering Preferred.
